Our Story

Derby Service was formed to bridge a gap in personal assistant services. While some have a full-time personal assistant, others genuinely need help but may not have the need or the resources for a full-time assistant.

Derby Service is the brainchild of a busy professional who found himself in this very situation. His workdays were long with plenty of business trips thrown into the mix. He would often return home from a trip to an untidy home with bare cupboards. It was a constant battle to keep up with day-to-day errands even when he was in town. In his frustration with this situation, he dreamed of having a part-time personal assistant to improve his quality of life. The concept of time-shared personal assistants was his solution.

This is how Derby Service was born. It was created to benefit people in need of personal assistance, from busy professionals, active retirees, families on the go, single parents, brides-to-be, recovering medical patients, to chronic business travelers. Our trained personal assistants help our clients manage the “little things in life” that must be done but erode their free time. By getting life’s necessities under control, we improve the quality of life for our clients.

A: Derby Service provides personal assistants on a time-share basis. Because not everyone has the need or resources for a full-time personal assistant but may still need help managing day-to-day tasks, Derby Service fills this gap. Q: Is Derby Service safe to use?

A: Absolutely. Our services are safe, secure and confidential. Client information is safeguarded and protected. Additionally, client’s house keys are stored in a tamper-proof key ring and identified by serial number only. For added security, all keys rings are kept in a locked safe, and signed in and out with each and every use.

Personal assistants undergo stringent screening, including a thorough background check. They are selected from a large pool of candidates and are held to the highest standards of ethics.

Q: Where do you provide personal assistant services?

A: Based in Washington, DC, Derby Service provides personal assistants within the greater Washington, DC area.

Q: How do you know what your clients want?

A: To the greatest extent possible the same personal assistant will be assigned to a particular client. With this continuity, we more quickly learn about our clients, and are better able to keep them satisfied.

Q: Are all of your services listed on the website?

A: No. Our list of services provided on our website and company literature pieces are examples of services we can perform. We encourage our clients to create their own to-do list for our assistants. Just as our clients are all unique, their needs are as well.

Q: How do you handle billing?

A: Derby Service bills once a week. Our clients are billed for their hourly package within one week of service. All Derby Service personal assistants have company credit cards for incidental purchases made on behalf of our clients at their request (i.e. grocery shopping, gift purchase, etc). All receipts for such purchases will be retained by Derby Service, submitted to the client, and billed. There are no surcharges or hidden fees to our pricing or services.

Q: Is this service affordable?

A: Yes. We offer customized service packages so that our clients are only paying for the time they need for a particular service to be completed.

Q: What is included with the purchase of my personal assistant time?

A: Your personal assistant, their undivided time and attention, their company car and fuel.

Q: Are there any hidden fees or surcharges associated with this service?

A: No. There are absolutely no charges to our clients other than (a) the charge for their assistant and (b) direct costs incurred during service to client at their request (i.e. shopping).

Q: Should I tip my personal assistant?

A: No. We discourage tipping of our assistants.
